Experience with animals and own pets

When it comes to all the pets that I had in my life, I almost don't know where to begin!

I was born into a family that already had pets. We had an Alsatian called Cesar and a Cocker Spaniel called Leo.

Later, we adopted a little baby Maltese Poodle and called her Danté. She was our only pet for about 4 years. That was until we saw a litter of Ridgeback puppies at a friend’s house! We bought a baby girl and called her Cleo. Our family is big animal lovers and it wasn't long till a 3rd little guy joined our family - a grey and black striped cat. He was the only male pet we had. His name was Smokey. He was quite the naughty cat and wandered the streets a lot, until one day he just never came home. He was mostly my personal pet and it broke my heart.

A few weeks later my mother came to me and said she found someone with kittens. We bought our 2nd cat then. I prefer to think we rescued her because that house was overrun by cats and tipped over litter boxes! Her name is Nala.

We were a happy little family for a few years until one day our poor Danté got bit by a bigger dog as we took her for a walk. We had to let her be put to sleep. It broke my mother’s heart.

For a long time my mother didn't want to get another pet. My mother said that if we get another pet it has to be a rescue. So, we did a lot of research and looked at a lot of places. My mom wanted a little dog again. We came upon a jack Russell and Fox Terrier mix rescued from a terribly abusive home. My mother thought she was perfect. Upon closer look we saw a little pup attached to her. The pup looked like a Border Collie but we were assured that the pup belonged to the mother she was attached to! In the end they were a package deal and we adopted them both. The Jack Russell - Foxy we called Mienkie and the Border Collie pup we called Moya.

We still had Cleo and Nala the cat at this stage. So, for a few years we had 4 pets consisting of 3 dogs and one cat.

On one heart breaking day we came home to our mommy and pup duo poisoned by criminals that tried to break in. We could not save them. A few months later my mother was asked to take care of my late grandmother’s pet. She is a purebred Italian greyhound. The brown dog in the picture.

Not long after that we got another rescue dog. Her breed we are not sure about because she has features belonging to many different breeds. She is the dog with her head on my lap.

We did not have her too long until we had to say good bye to our oldest dog Cleo (14 years old). Our old lady was our companion and support through many pet changes and changes in life. Nala has also stood by us through all this. That is the black cat in the photo.

So, our little pet family is a bit small now but it is still full of love and care!
