April’s Pet Sitter of the Month

Wow! A HUGE congratulations to Jolanda, April 2019’s Pet Sitter of the Month! Jolanda has been a very valuable member of our team since October of 2017. This lady has more 5 star reviews than you can count on your fingers and toes, and continues to excel in all that she does for the company. We are so lucky to have her on our team!

What did the pet parents have to say?

Jolanda was meticulous, fun and my dogs love her. Correction – my dogs are in love with her. Dankie Jolanda – vir al die fotos, die feedback en die gemoedsrus!” – Pet Parent Marita, mother of Angus and Ruby.

Jolanda is the best pet sitter in the world. She stayed in our house for 5 weeks and every day we received the most beautiful photos and stories about every single animal – and we have heaps. I don’t even think our animals missed us, they were so loved! I was really so impressed with her – a lovely, special young lady!!!” – Pet Parent Rose, mother of the Williams clan.

Jolanda went above and beyond of what was expected of her. She really impressed me.” – Lynn-Marie, mother of Bruno, Kolby, Jesse and Einstein.

Here’s some feedback from Jolanda herself!

When Jolanda heard from us that she had been chosen as StudentCo’s Pet Sitter of the Month, she eagerly shared more about herself by answering a couple of our questions:

As a StudentCo pet sitter, it goes without saying that you are a BIG fan of animals. Please tell us about the animals you consider to be your family.

I have the three cutest furkids at home! I have a Jack Russell Terrier named Bella, and two Spaniels named Simson and Roxy. I love them to bits… and they know it, given the liberties they take at home!

They love going for walks, but Bella always seems to be the keenest to go for a jog with me. My furkids can be entertained for hours with something as simple as a ball. Simson is the very definition of a mama’s boy, Bella is my little tomboy and Roxy is the little lady of the house.

Is there an animal charity or cause that is close to your heart? If so, please tell us more about them.

Woodrock Animal Rescue is very close to my heart. It is one of the oldest independent domestic animal rescues in South Africa. They are a non-profit, pro-life, rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing shelter in the Hennops River Valley on the R511 Hartebeespoort Road. All animals deserve a life filled with love, care and happiness – Woodrock helps to make that a reality for many animals.

What is your favourite thing about working as a pet sitter?

I have always had a love for animals – I am the kind of person who first pets the animals and then realises that I actually came to see the people ?. All of the fur and feathered babies of the various families I’ve sat for have rooted themselves in my heart! I love and treat them as my own and am always excited the see and spend time with my semi-adopted fur kids, each with their own unique personality.

If you could have an up-close encounter with any type of wildlife, what would you choose?

I would absolutely love to have the opportunity to see and touch a whale.

If you HAD to pick, would you say that you are a Dog Person or a Cat Person?

For years it was the easiest question to answer – a dog person! However, I have grown to adore cats after I experienced their affection while pet sitting. Although I adore cats now, my heart still tends to pull more towards a dog – they are always happy to see you. They are so predictable with regards to their loyalty and love and they always find a way to turn my mood around.

Tell us something surprising about yourself

I was attacked by a Bull Terrier when I was 6 years old. My mom had to rush me to the hospital – I distinctly remember the strict nurse telling me I should calm down and not cry because it will hurt more if I did. I left the hospital that evening with 45 stitches in my head. From that day on, I learned how to read dogs’ behaviours and tell signs and how important it is to teach a child how and when to play with a dog. They are fluffy balls of love and happiness, but are still able to get frustrated. I am still a dog lover to this day though!

StudentCo team members are all students. What are you studying, and what do dream of doing once you have completed your course?

I am studying LLB Law. The dream is to be one of the best advocates in medical and/or patent law.

Any funny animal stories or memories you think our pet parents would enjoy?

I find that dogs with their rituals make the most interesting stories. I’ve observed a few myself: Two large Ridgebacks only eating after they’ve prayed and I’ve said “Amen”. The most adorable Staffie taking the hem of my pants and taking me for a walk around the whole house while wagging his tail continuously before I’m allowed to pet the other furkid.

A 5 year old Ridgeback refusing to go to bed until she’s gotten dressed in her pajamas and I’ve tucked her in after religiously placing 3 different blankets on her – it should be noted that this extends to the summer! A blue-eyed Husky standing in front of me howling his heart out for a walk. A St Barnard pup jumping on the bed, finding her cozy position on top of me and licking me until I decide to wake up. Lastly, a huge Pitbull climbing on top of the bed, standing on my hair (ensuring I cannot move) and licking my face without showing any mercy.
