Experience with animals and own pets

My family has always had Alsatians, unfortunately for them I was not in charge of naming them, the first, who I can remember while I was a child, was Caesar and Stephy.

As I grew up they had puppies, Rocky and Ceasar the 2nd (again I had no choice over these names!) Over the 10 years we had with them, they were my first experience with a dog I could call mine. Rocky was my little boy and Caesar was my older brother's, but I think I was actually both their favourites and loved them both dearly! The four of us had a deep connection, and the two dogs seemed to have inherited personality traits from my brother and myself. If my brother and I fought, Rocky and Caesar would fight. Unfortunately, being the youngest, Rocky and I often ended up on the losing side!

During this time we brought Stephy the 2nd into our home who was already 6 years old, she was the family’s best friend, and didn’t take on to anyone in particular. I was however the one put in charge of feeding her, cleaning her bowls and generally taking care of her. She passed years after her brother's Rocky and Ceasar the 2nd did but before then she met our first adopted dog Rocky the 2nd, and my pride and joy, whom she ended up raising as her own son.

Currently, Rocky the 2nd is the only one left and he is 11 years old now, but young at heart, running around his yard despite being partially blind. He's a little selfish with that yard as we tried adopting a little friend for him 4 years ago but he did not want that at all.

One of the things I love watching Rocky do is to watch him bark at the neighbours dog through the wall with his tail waggling and when the neighbour's dog starts barking back at Rocky, he runs back to me, as if to say "Hey Dad! Did you see how I ignored that dog, ppshhh" he'll have such a happy and prideful look that you can't help but laugh at him. Sometimes the other dog won't respond, and he'll look so sad, making me wish I could introduce him to a new sibling, but that quickly fades when his neighbour barks back eventually– sometimes I think Rocky is ok with only this as his company – like a true old man! Rocky is like a brother to me, but I think I fill both roles of brother and father and give him love all the same.

Other than my time with Alsatians, when I visit my neighbours I enjoy playing with the cats they have – this at the expense of me getting scars on my hands, as cats tend to miss the line separating “play mode” and “kill mode”, I love them all the same either way! I just simply love animals and thoroughly look forward to meeting more!
