Mackayla with Billy

A huge congratulations to Mackayla, December 2018’s Pet Sitter of the Month! Mackayla has been a very valuable member of our team since October 2017. She is friendly, reliable and a true asset to our company. In the year and two months that she’s worked for us, she has had dozens of bookings all throughout Centurion and has managed to achieve fourteen 5 star reviews!

What did the pet parents have to say?

Mackayla is the loveliest lady. On the welcome visit, I already felt at ease and knew that she was the one that I could trust with my baby. You can just see she loves animals and Milo immediately liked her, so I knew if he trusts her and likes her then she is the right one to look after him.

I would recommend her to everyone. She is an absolute pleasure to deal with and she kept me up to date everyday. I did not stress about Milo one day while I was away, because I knew 100% that she would love him and take care of him just as much as I would. She is AMAZING!!” – Pet parent Yvonne, mother of Milo.

Mackayla is a real gem. I would gladly recommend her to anyone. Very Glad that I have booked her for my December leave as well.” – Pet parent Liezle, mother of Mia, Dash and Zoë.

Mackayla is a wonderful person to deal with. She clearly adores animals, as my pets loved her to bits. Casey is usually very suspicious of strangers, but she warmed to Mackayla instantly, which is a true testament to Mackayla’s kind and sweet demeanour.” – Pet parent Maureen, mother of Tosca, Cooper and Casey.

Some feedback from Mackayla herself!

Mackayla was very excited and honoured to hear that she had been chosen as StudentCo’s Pet Sitter of the Month! She even took the time to answer these questions for us:

As a StudentCo pet sitter, it goes without saying that you are a BIG fan of animals. Please tell us about the animals you consider to be your family?

“I have three animals that are part of my family – Sheba is a Ridgeback, Nala is an Afrikaanis SPCA rescue and Chloë is a Jack Russell cross.

Sheba is a spoilt baby, as she climbs up on the couch and always asks to be covered with her blanket. She loves eating too!

Nala is a ball lover – she’ll chase you around with it until you play with her and she’ll drop the ball on your foot. She is such a sweet little girl. Lastly, Chloë is the old lady of the house. She will bark at anyone or anything that moves, but she’s also just a little sweetie pie.”

Is there an animal charity or cause that is close to your heart? If so, please tell us more about them.

The Lyttelton SPCA is particularly close to my heart. I spent a full year volunteering for them and I learnt so much about animals. All the people there have such big hearts – they welcome you like family. They do so much good for every animal that comes under their care. I am very blessed to be a part of that.”

What is your favourite thing about working as a pet sitter?

My favourite part of being a pet sitter is spending time with the pets. They all have these unique personalities and are all so cute. It makes it it totally worth it.”

If you could have an up-close encounter with any type of wildlife, what would you choose?

“If I could have a close up encounter with any wildlife, it would be the wild horses that run free in Namibia – most are beautiful, shiny black. I’ve heard they sound like thunder roaring as they run across the plains. Seeing them in person would be a dream come true!

If you HAD to pick, would you say that you are a Dog Person or a Cat Person?

“I think I would probably say that I am a dog person at this stage of my life, because I can run around with them, chase balls and swim with them.”

Tell us something surprising about yourself!

“Not many people know this, but I plan on breeding with endangered species to bring them back from the brink of extinction and to build a sanctuary for them to thrive, so that poachers can’t get to them.”

StudentCo team members are all students. What are you studying, and what do dream of doing once you have completed your course?

I am currently studying BSc Animal Sciences and then going on to study Veterinary Science. My dream is to help wild and exotic animals, other than just normal dogs and cats. I would be able to travel the world and save animals at the same time. It would be amazing if that dream came true.”

Any funny animal stories or memories you think our pet parents would enjoy?

I regularly pet sit a young Yorkie named Milo. One day, I was doing stay overs at Milo’s home and in the evening he would get into these playful moods. He would crawl up to me in sneak mode, bounce all over me and then jump off the bed and run down the passage. Then he’d sprint back, leap onto the bed and start all over again, like a big game of tag. I have never seen a cuter dog in my whole life! He has the sweetest personality!”
