StudentCo’s Pet of the Month

Mango

Mango getting rubs from her StudentCo sitter, Andrea.

We are so excited to present to you July 2019’s Pet of the Month – the gorgeous and loving Mango! This brave rescue Greyhound has so many hilarious little quirks, easily making her one of our cutest furry clients.

Who nominated Mango?

This month, I actually decided to nominate Mango myself, as opposed to asking other team members for their nominations. Mango is just too cute to miss out on this opportunity in the spotlight.

I have only baby sat her and siblings, Flashy and Angel, twice but all three of them very quickly found a cosy spot in my heart – Mango in particular.

My favourite memory of Mango was from the very first day I spent at the Petit household. I woke up early, showered, changed, fed the kids and then headed out to start the day. I’d left my bag open that morning, blissfully unaware of Mango’s tendency to steal clothing. That evening I came home to my entire bag unpacked for me and all of my belongings scattered around the house: Socks in the lounge, underwear in the bar, slippers outside on the pool cover and shirts on the grass! Nothing destroyed, but everything placed gracefully around the property like Mango’s little pet sitter treasure hunt. Needless to say, I learnt my lesson that first day.

The longest legs ever!

What did her hoomans have to say?

Mom Danilla and dad Mark, were SO excited to hear that their special little furkid had been chosen as StudentCo’s Pet of the Month. They eagerly shared some adorable info about their baby with us!

Everyone loves a good origin story – how did Mango become part of the Petit clan?

“We’ve always wanted a Greyhound but we knew we wanted to adopt, so we gave our names up at Greyhound Rescue SA. They then contacted us within a week and said they have a young Greyhound available that desperately needed a home. We immediately went through to meet her. She was thin and scared, but we knew she was our baby. She then came home with us 2 days later. Since then, she has gained over 10kg and has transformed into the cutest and most beautiful and amazing baby ever. She just needed to experience a little bit of love to restore her faith in humans.”

Naming our fur kids is always fun – how did you choose the name Mango?

Her name was chosen by her foster mother and we decided to keep it. Now we just love the name!”

Soaking in some sun!

Does she have any unique quirks or habits that can’t help but make you smile?

“Wow! She has so many! She absolutely loves to take shoes, clothes, teddy bears, or basically anything from inside the house to outside and just sprinkles them around the garden so that she can sleep next to them. It might just be the company that she enjoys, but she never breaks or chews anything. She just carries it outside and leaves it lying around.”

Would you describe Mango as adventurous or laid-back?

More laid back, as she loves to sleep most of the day away. She does, however, get her little random bursts of energy where she runs like crazy around the inside of the house.”

As pet parents we’re not allowed to have favourites, but who is Mango’s favourite hooman?

Daddy is! Probably because he gives her more snacks and always lets her sleep on the bed.”

Her perfect day would be…

Just being off leash in the park and running around at full speed, playing with all of the other fur babies.”

Her favourite food is…

Her favourite food is definitely raw eggs. They fed this to her a lot when she was rescued to build her immune system up and now she can smell a raw egg from a mile away. She even steals them from the cupboard sometimes!”

Her favourite toy is…

Her favourite toy is any kind of teddy bear. She doesn’t play with balls, but goes crazy over teddy bears. She is like a little kid getting a new toy and now has easily over a hundred different teddy bears.”

Her favourite StudentCo pet sitter is…

Most definitely Andrea Wilkins. She’s also our favourite!!!!!!”

Any other funny memories or stories you think other pet parents would enjoy?

She loves to watch TV, especially when there are animals on the TV. She usually looks for the animals behind the screen and starts crying when she can’t find them.

Adopting is by far the best thing we have ever done.

A big thank you to Andrea who has always been there to look after our babies and love them as her own.”
