The next step is the meet-and-greet. This is an informal meeting at your home so you (and your pets!) can get to know a potential sitter. You are invited to discuss your needs and expectations openly, and then decide whether you would like to proceed with a booking. The meet-and-greet is 100% cost and obligation-free and will be arranged for a time that suits you.

Experience with animals and own pets

In my opinion, pets are more than just animals - they are family. I have been blessed in that I have always had the pleasure of loving and being loved by fur babies. I currently have two cats, Deudalus and Maleficent, and four dogs, Max, Sky, Toby and Peanut - all aged three. All six of my fur babies are rescued strays, which also means that none of them are purebreds, but I love them just the same.

In addition to my own pets, I have worked as a pet sitter and volunteered at my current university to help our resident cats. As a community, it is important to assist one another wherever possible. This may come in the form of charity or time, but animals are commonly over looked in these instances. As humans, keeping pets teaches responsibility and provides companionship, as pets rely totally on humans for care and food, which is absent in in the lives of stray animals.

My fellow students and I created a group dedicated to raising funds to care for and feed the feral cats of Monash. As a cat lover and cat owner myself, it was of extreme importance that I did my part to assist in these cats’ well-being. All the cats on the Monash campus are abandoned cats from surrounding areas and as a result have little to no care. In order to raise money, each member of the group contributed to four hampers which we then sold raffle tickets for. The money was used to spay the cats to avoid the population increasing, food for daily feeding and cat houses in case of rain.

Furthermore, I took it upon myself to spend at least two hours a day with the cats that allowed for contact, to be petted and loved because in my opinion, animals need love and attention just as much as food and water. These cats may not understand affection and may have been abused in the past, so it is important to show them affection for their own happiness.

In addition to the raffle for the Monash cats, we were able to donate items from our own pockets to the local animal shelter, Claws. These items consisted of food, newspapers, water and blankets. During this experience, I bonded particularly with a Tom cat named Slinky, who was extremely affectionate and to this day, Slinky and I have our daily conversations and petting, in order for him to never forget that he is loved.
