Wow! A HUGE congratulations to Frederich, March 2019’s Pet Sitter of the Month! Frederich (https://www.studentco.co.za/frederich-h-pet-sitter-profile.html) has been a very valuable member of our team since March of 2018. Since joining we have learnt of Frederich’s love for the unconventional pets, one of those awesome individuals who really takes loving all furry creatures to the max!
was absolutely AWESOME!!!!
We have used him before, and had to use him this time for 3
weeks. He really took care of our house, and went above and beyond
anything expected as he had to sort out a geyser that packed up, as well as had
to deal with valuators from a bank.
I can most definitely recommend him to anybody in the area. His soft nature put my normal skitish cat at complete ease – and that says a lot. Freddy, we cannot thank you enough!!!!!! Studentco better appreciate you, you are an absolute gem” – Pet Parent Alta, mother of kitty Tiger
“We were very satisfied with the service and will use it again. Frederich communicated daily and looked after Bella & Chloe very well.” – Furbabies Bella and Chloe’s father, Dick
“Freddy was amazing with our pets. Very caring and concerned about them. He gave good feedback on their health and eating habits. He was so great my dogs didn’t miss me as much as usual.” – Lize, furbaby mom of Logan and Leo.
When Frederich heard from us that he had been chosen as StudentCo’s Pet Sitter of the Month, he eagerly shared more about himself by answering a couple of our questions!
As a StudentCo pet sitter, it goes without saying that you are a BIG fan of animals. Please tell us about the animals you consider to be your family.
Although a very unpopular pet in South Africa, I have two rats that are very close to me, literally and figuratively, because they are right next to my desk at all times! We have two wonderful rescue cats, one that we had to raise from less than two weeks old. We also have the sweetest little dog had to get one of his legs amputated, but we are happy to say he is recovering extremely well!
Is there an animal charity or cause that is close to your heart? If so, please tell us more about them.
I have volunteered at the SPCA near my house :).
What is your favourite thing about working as a pet sitter?
I would say it’s the people I get to work for. It is so wonderful to see such wonderful and friendly pet parents whose pets mean the world to them, so much so that you feel the urge to work extra hard every day to care for their animals.
If you could have an up-close encounter with any type of wildlife, what would you choose and why?
If I had to choose an animal that you wouldn’t typically get close to if you can help it, I would choose the lion. If I could get close and truly awe at the magnitude and presence of the king of the jungle, I think it would be a lot easier to encompass how magnificent each individual is, and how important its role is in maintaining the ecosystem.
If you HAD to pick, would you say that you are a Dog Person or a Cat Person?
I’d choose dogs, just for the simple fact that I’m an outgoing person and would need an outgoing pet that would stay by my side.
Tell us something surprising about yourself
The most surprising thing about me is that I am the temporary caretaker of the deadliest scorpion in South Africa! After returning from the Cape, my friend found he had inadvertently brought back a little passenger. It is illegal to release species outside of their native range – as such, I am taking care of this little guy until I get the chance to release it back in its home.
StudentCo team members are all students. What are you studying, and what do dream of doing once you have completed your course?
I am doing BSc Entomology, the study of insects. My dream is to discover new things, spread scientific literacy and be able to admire wildlife on a much finer scale. How I go about doing so, I don’t really mind.
Any funny animal stories of memories you think our pet parents would enjoy?
When I was younger we had a gorgeous German Shepherd cross, but with a little bit of a screw loose. He would typically lick the floors and walls outside our house any chance he could get for no reason. It was impossible to get out of our kitchen door without stepping in dog drool. One other thing he would do is jump up onto our fence, consisting of cement walls, and then hang on to the top with his front paws so he could peek over and bark at passers by!
