If you like this profile, remember the name "Marie-Elize V" and simply click here to tell us more about your pets and when you will need a sitter. StudentCo will let you know if this pet sitter is available (if not, you will be introduced to another, equally awesome, team member).

The next step is the meet-and-greet. This is an informal meeting at your home so you (and your pets!) can get to know a potential sitter. You are invited to discuss your needs and expectations openly, and then decide whether you would like to proceed with a booking. The meet-and-greet is 100% cost and obligation-free and will be arranged for a time that suits you.

Experience with animals and own pets

Over the years I’ve had many pets and they have all had a very special place in my heart.

Today, I have 7 dogs. I have one St. Bernard, 4 English bulldogs, one French bulldog and one mixed breed.

My St. Bernard is a beautiful girl named Lady. She was taken from a family who abused her and was adopted by my family. Lady loves sleeping on the couch and giving people kisses.

Our mixed breed girl is named Bubbles. We found her next to the highway when she was just a tiny pup and cared for her ever since.

My little French bulldog is named Tuby, he is very excitable and loves playing, and he loves kisses and cuddles.

Our English Bulldogs are named Vetsak, Baba, Bekkie, and Tokolosh. They each have their own unique personality. Baba loves cookies and when my mom sings “you are my sunshine” to him. Bekkie likes napping in the sun. Vetsak loves biting your feet as you walk and sleeps all day. Tokolosh loves Jason Derulo’s song Wiggle and dances to the song whenever you sing it.

Along with my mother and two other friends, we started a bulldog rescue group that help rescue and find foster or adoptive families. Through this, we found our adoptive bulldog Winston. Winston was a year old when we rescued him from a breeder keeping him in a meter by meter cage in direct sunlight without any shade. We took Winston to the vet where they told us he had a narrowed trachea, epilepsy and suffered from a hearing disability, he also had cherry eye, a condition where a prolapse of the gland of the nictitating membrane or third eyelid occurs. Winston was on chronic medication for his epilepsy and narrowed trachea. He underwent 2 operations. The first to remove the gland causing cherry eye and the second to widen his trachea. Both operations were successful. I would give Winston his medication every night. For his narrowed trachea I gave him bisolvent – a medication used to open airways and reduce mucus in the lungs – and allergex – an anti-allergenic medication. I also gave his epilepsy every night and when he had a seizure I would give it immediately. The vet also explained that seizures can be caused by hypoglycemia and that we can give him something like honey to increase his blood glucose. Winston passed away at two years and 8 months old because of his narrowed trachea.

The bulldog rescue group is still active and trying to help dogs across South Africa. I have also fostered several dogs until we found homes for them. I also visit wetnose regularly to play with the dogs.
