StudentCo’s Pet Sitter of the Month – Lené!

Lené with Klara.

A big congratulations to Lené, November 2018’s Pet Sitter of the Month! Lené has been a very valuable member of our team since March of this year. She is friendly, enthusiastic and an absolute pleasure to work with. She has helped out a number of families this year and is the regular sitter for the Steenkamp family – the pet parents of Stoney, StudentCo’s Pet of the Month.

What did the pet parents have to say?

Lené with Stoney.

Martie, Stoney’s mom, had the loveliest things to say about Lené and her feedback is the reason why Lené was chosen as Pet Sitter of the Month.

We couldn’t possibly be happier with Lené. She is such an amazing pet sitter and she has truly become part of our family. I am in the Czech Republic for a lengthy research stay and my husband often travels for work. We would not have been able to do our jobs and have happy pets if it wasn’t for Lené who loves our dogs wholeheartedly.

She also held a birthday party for Stoney! She bought all of the dogs gifts and sent me lots of pictures. She filmed the whole thing, so that I could feel like I was there for Stoney’s second birthday. She is so sweet and has become our fur babies’ god mommy. She even Skypes me so that I can see and talk to my fur babies, even though I am thousands of kilometres away.

We are so fortunate to have her as a sitter. Apart from 3 overly spoilt dogs, she also has to take care of our 30 odd fish. I cannot compliment Lené enough. She has such a good heart.

Some feedback from Lené herself!

Lené was ecstatic to hear that she had been chosen as StudentCo’s Pet Sitter of the Month! She even took the time to answer these questions for us:

As a StudentCo pet sitter, it goes without saying that you are a BIG fan of animals. Please tell us about the animals you consider to be your family?

I have a three year old Doberman named Sasha that I love with all my heart! She loves it when I pull her ears and she always comes to sit in between my legs when I’m standing still. Her huge brown eyes make my heart melt instantly!

I also have a two year old Cockatiel named Kuifie. I got him when he was 6 months old and tamed him myself. He has a huge ego and loves looking at himself in the mirror and singing to himself!

I also definitely consider Stoney, Lucie and Scruffy from the Steenkamp family as my family! These loved ones crawled into my heart with their cute little paws and have made a home for themselves there. I am so blessed to work with the Steenkamp family. StudentCo really gave me a home away from home by giving me the opportunity to work with these fur kids, for whom I’ll always have a special place in my heart.”

What is your favourite thing about working as a pet sitter?

Pet sitter? I call it pet lover! I love and live for animals. They are the ones who bring us true joy in life. They are the ones that will always give you one more kiss, even when they know they’ve been naughty! Why? Because they love us unconditionally!

Being a pet sitter means building bonds with families, earning their trust and in turn, you build new relationships filled with happiness and kindness. I love seeing all the love that pet owners have for their fur kids and how grateful and excited they are when they return home to happy babies. That is true happiness! “

If you could have an up-close encounter with any type of wildlife, what would you choose?

Definitely an elephant! They are these huge strong animals with enormous tusks that can destroy anything in their way, but when we look into their eyes, all we see is calmness and life. Those animals have walked this planet a long time. Imagine how much knowledge they have! I call them survivors. They are absolutely amazing! “

If you HAD to pick, would you say that you are a Dog Person or a Cat Person?

I choose fluffiness! Cats and dogs both have unique qualities and personal choice varies, but luckily for me, I love both of them and see both of them as exceptional animals that make the best pets for anyone!”

Tell us something surprising about yourself!

I play Underwater Hockey! Yes, we play at the bottom of a pool around 2.5m deep. Yes, we do hold our breaths and don’t have tanks supporting us. Yes, it is a lot of fun! Underwater Hockey is a.. breathtaking sport 😉”

StudentCo team members are all students. What are you studying, and what do dream of doing once you have completed your course?

“I am currently a proud second (going on third) year student studying Bsc Sport Science. I’m striving to qualify for Biokinetics Honours in my 4th year to become a Biokineticist one day and work with a huge variety of people, while changing the world’s health and conditioning level one step at a time.”

Any funny animal stories or memories you think our pet parents would enjoy?

Think you’d be able to study with Stoney in the room with you? Think again! He is such a big study buddy, that he’ll wiggle his strong, 76kg body in between the table and your chair, so that he can have a drool session with his head on your lap before you can get started. Then, to get extra close to you, he’ll squash his body underneath the study table right where your feet are supposed to be. He then proceeds to take a nap while you are uncomfortably fighting for space. At least one of us gets some sleep!”
