September’s Pet Sitter of the Month

We are beyond excited to present to you Connor, September 2019’s Pet Sitter of the Month! Connor was chosen as pet sitter of the month because he received an amazing 6 five star reviews in the month of September alone! He has been a part of our team for a little over two years now, but still continues to impress us with his hard work, friendliness and passion!

What did the pet parents have to say?

Connor was fantastic and we felt very comfortable leaving our beasties in his hands. He came recommended and did not disappoint. Specifically, I’d like to thank the team for assisting us on very short notice after the sitter we had arranged elsewhere cancelled 2 days before we left. Professional, caring and trustworthy. Well done, team! – Jacqueline, pet mommy of Harley, Muzbe and Sally.

Peter Pan is diabetic so required extra care. Connor was fantastic and had no problem injecting insulin and keeping to the set times for meals and injections. Thank you Connor and we hope to see you soon! – Nicole, mother of Dusty and Peter Pan.

This is the second time Connor has stayed over with Teddy and I am very comfortable with him. Teddy is very spoilt and does not always take to people, he loves Connor. Thanks very much for providing such a wonderful service. – Pet parent Gael, mother of Teddy.

Here’s some feedback from Connor himself!

Connor was super excited to hear that he had been chosen as our pet sitter of the month. He even took the time to answer these exciting questions about himself:

As a StudentCo pet sitter, it goes without saying that you are a BIG fan of animals. Please tell us about the animals you consider to be your family 😊.

Our current group of doggy friends consists of Duff, Snoop and Princess Leia. Duff and Snoop are brothers whose mother was abandoned shortly after giving birth to them – she survived under a derelict house for about 2 weeks before being discovered and all were skin and and bones when delivered to the FORA centre. We simply couldn’t resist when we saw the Facebook post and came home with both very shortly after, where they met our three older resident dogs.

A few years after their arrival, after our three older boys had passed on, we saw yet another Facebook post about a puppy being found on the side of the road and decided it had to be fate… Introducing Princess Leia. Duff and Snoop took her under their collective wing and today they’re an inseparable trio that brighten every one of our days with their antics and incredibly diverse personalities.

Is there an animal charity or cause that is close to your heart? If so, please tell us more about them.

Definitely FORA (friends of rescued animals). Their kind, passionate and dedicated staff are the hallmark of human empathy towards our friends without voices when they need it the most. They host plenty of open days where many visitors come to walk and play with the resident animals and always strive to go that extra mile.

What is your favourite thing about working as a pet sitter?

My favourite part has to be staying with many different breeds (and kinds) of animals and seeing the very different, intricate and loving personalities they all have and how they bring so much light and happiness into every client’s home.

If you could have an up-close encounter with any type of wildlife, what would you choose?

A blue whale. In my eyes, there is no reality check that could be quite as breathtaking as floating next to the pinnacle of mother nature’s extreme power and awesomeness.

If you HAD to pick, would you say that you are a Dog Person or a Cat Person?

I’d say I’m a dog person – nothing like those wagging tails.

Tell us something surprising about yourself

Both my sister and I were taught how to walk by one of our dogs, Dougal – she would come up alongside us and wait until we held on to her before walking us around the living room endlessly, until we let go.

Any funny animal stories or memories you think our pet parents would enjoy?

We’ve had many different pets over my life including dogs, cats, hamsters, mice, fish, bearded dragons and rabbits, but one of my favourite stories comes from a time when we had pet rats. Rats make for such intelligent, loving and cuddly pets – ours were allowed to play on the bed during the day and spent their nights jumping around in a giant converted parrot cage. One of our babies, Bean, was an escape artist of note and could break out of anything given enough time. One night, she managed to squeeze out of her cage and make her way out of my room and all the way down to the opposite side of the house where she climbed up my parent’s bedpost and woke them both asking for playtime! Needless to say, they were quite shocked by the rude awakening and we were glad she didn’t decide to explore downstairs first!
