StudentCo Pet Sitter Profile

If you like this profile, remember the name "Simone B" and simply click here to tell us more about your pets and when you will need a sitter. StudentCo will let you know if this pet sitter is available (if not, you will be introduced to another, equally awesome, team member).

The next step is the meet-and-greet. This is an informal meeting at your home so you (and your pets!) can get to know a potential sitter. You are invited to discuss your needs and expectations openly, and then decide whether you would like to proceed with a booking. The meet-and-greet is 100% cost and obligation-free and will be arranged for a time that suits you.

Experience with animals and own pets

I have always had cats and dogs growing up and realised from a young age that I love being around animals. I have one grumpy old cat, Tika, who is a rescue kitten turned snobby cat with very specific food 'needs' and limited periods of affection, but I love her all the same. I also have two dogs who are both rescues as well – Choco, the chocolate Labrador, and Limo, the little tan Dachshund. Limo is a massive diva and drama queen, but I love her to bits too.

Both of my dogs are back at my family home in Durban. Now that I am staying in Pretoria while studying, I have been fostering rescue kittens for the past two years and headed a 'rescue, treat, foster and rehome' programme for the past year through the Onderstepoort Cat Interest Group. Because we had to treat a lot of these animals, I now have a fair amount of experience with cats and kittens - not to mention a huge soft spot in my heart for them!

I can perform a basic clinical exam on an animal and know how to respond to emergencies, due to my experience and knowledge from studying Veterinary Science for the past three years. I have also been working a lot with horses over the years by working at a horse riding tourist destination, on an appaloosa stud farm for a little while and also at Onderstepoort, by getting the young horses used to handling and ground work.

I have some riding experience, but am more of a horse lover than an experienced rider, so I will be able to (and be very excited to) look after horses as well. I also have some experience working with cattle, that I developed at Onderstepoort too. I recently started working part time at a veterinary clinic, so I work with animals on a regular basis, especially with treatments and handling. I will therefore be able to pet sit animals on medication - not to mention give them lots and lots of TLC!
